Aquarius loves philosophy and unconventionality: community is their boon
Aquarius loves astrology inventiveness and experimentation: friendship is their boon

In the Vedic calendar Sun transits Aquarius from Feb. 12 – March 13

From Feb. 12 to Mar. 13th, all of us begin to feel the influence of the Sun transiting, or moving through Aquarius – Saturn’s sign number 11 – the multiplier house of fulfillment, groups, friends and the collective. Sun is transiting his own son’s house (Saturn is the Sun’s son) and shining radiance upon that which is philosophical, scientific, innovative, metaphysical, independent, and humane. These are the “groovy” people of the cosmic sky and depending upon what the individual favors in life, Sun in Aquarius can give a somewhat quirky, stubborn, cerebral, scientific and technically abstract character, or a friendly, loyal, eclectic, innovative, independent, and somewhat selfless personality – working for or towards the greater good of humanity, the planet, and collective consciousness.

Sun transit through Aquarius

Those who have their Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon in Aquarius, in the 11th house, or a number of planets in the 11th, or aspecting the 11th sign or house, may find that the following descriptions apply to them all year round, as well as just during Feb. 12 – March 13th, each year.

The sign of Aquarius depicts a man (or woman) pouring water from a large pot or jug, symbolizing both devoted service and sharing of universal and refreshing concepts. The large pot also describes a deep desire to collect and store interesting things. These individuals can be collectors of art, antiques, information and other intriguing items which they enjoy showing or sharing with others.

Two wavy lines (one on top of each other) is the Aquarius symbol – some say this represents thought waves, waves of water, electricity, group activities, and others say what is above is mirrored in what is below.

Aquarians are naturally in tune with abstract thinking and the bigger picture

All that is abstract, innovative, scientific, progressive, humanitarian, philosophical, technological, metaphysical, and unconventional appeals to the Aquarian personality. Aquarians, sign 11,may have a vast range of eclectic interests that appeal to their innovative, universal and open minds. If the Aquarian is pushed to the forefront and does take on a leadership role, they can be very progressive and innovative, gaining momentum as they move forward – shining forth with a wonderful blend of decency, modesty, detachment and friendliness that is universally appealing.

______________________________________________________

faviconFavorable and unfavorable tendencies

The Aquarian personality can

  • work for an advanced or innovative technology group during the day
  • dabble in astrology and metaphysics in the evenings
  • love flowers, peace, love, and sharing abstract thoughts
  • benefit from the money of others – through friendships or groups
  • volunteer their free time on weekends building shelters for the homeless
  • spend their holiday (and any spare) time championing causes for the underdog
  • enjoy long group meditative retreats bringing enlightenment to the world
  • tirelessly sacrifice and devote themselves to their work, hobbies, friends, societies, and families
  • be highly self-critical or negating about themselves – turning independent thinking into loneliness – despite the crowds surrounding them
  • become great collectors of art, antiques, and interesting things – or simply hoard
  • become best of friends quickly with everyone – they have an appealing universal quality
  • not know when to take time for themselves as well as for the rest of the world
  • become too quirky and innovative for traditionalist tastes
  • become stubborn, avaricious and hoarders
  • be very kind-hearted to the lowly or injured people and creatures

How others react to the inventive, experiment-oriented, astrologically interested Aquarian personality?

Often surrounded by a group of friends, or simply involved in a group ideal, the Aquarian personality is usually well-liked and appreciated. The Aquarian has got so many interesting facets to their personality, and possibly incredibly unique hobbies, that they are never at a loss to discuss their eclectic interests with great enthusiasm. Friendly yet detached, involved yet independent – people like to be around this far-thinking, expansive, interesting and appealing personality. That being said, their tendency to like all that is new can take them down roads not well travelled or appreciated by others – leading to complications. Their tendency to break boundaries, just because they can, can test the patience of others and subject them to the criticism of those less flexible in their ideals. Their unique and innovative thinking patterns and new age sharing approach can challenge the traditionalists who will no doubt call them quirky, or worse yet, relegate their humane and idealistic societal involvements to the rather insulting phrase of “hippy” or “socialist”.

Spiritual lessons of Aquarius

Some of the big lessons for the Aquarian personality are to learn that not everything new is great, not everything traditional is boring, not all that is metaphysical is appealing to everyone, not all that is cerebral and unconventional is intuitive or even correct. Some of the Aquarian boundary-breaking tendencies create nothing but more mental agitation in themselves and others. Rather than participating in ever more abstract group consciousness initiatives to bring about world peace, and tirelessly leading others to spiritual and artistic freedom, the Aquarian personality may be better served by starting to pour some of that ocean of attention into the development of their own inner peace and development of their own inner enlightenment. By experiencing and actualizing their own inner unboundedness, they no longer have to break boundaries – they simply go beyond or transcend all boundaries and come to rest in the ocean of consciousness within. At that point all that is above (harmonizing waves of enlightenment) will be reflected accurately below (individual experiencing enlightenment) – connecting the universal symbol of Aquarius to the individual life where all flows as One.

Aquarius Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon loves astrology inventiveness experimentation: friendship is their boon!

The late winter is a great time to go with the flow of the inventive, experimental, eclectic Aquarians you may know!

As Sun transits Aquarius from Feb. 12 – March 13 each year, we may feel the experimental side of us coming forth. We want to try new things, experience the higher vibrations, dip into metaphysics, pick up astrology, get into a group with a universal cause, talk about peace, love and the beauty of natural law. Something may stir us to break a few boundaries and make the cautious or conservative step back from us. We can start to feel alone in the vastness of crowds – a little uncertain if we wish to be so involved and connected to the many and long for the few “groovy” good friends that are more in tune with our eclectic and varied interests. The desire to accumulate and collect may start to zoom forth in our awareness and we want to show and share our impressive collections of knowledge, books, antiques and other intriguing objects de art with others. Our scientific side may blossom along with our love of plants, and the planet earth, and we can come up with some innovative technological insights or humanitarian service to solve world problems as well as creating lasting world peace.

Not up to the universal service tasks ? Call an Aquarius- you just need to ask!

what to favor and avoid for Sun’s transit of Aquarius

These tips are very effective

  • for all of us during the yearly transit of Sun through Aquarius Feb. 12 – March 13
  • for those who have a Aquarius Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon
  • for those who have some planets in the 11 th house from the Ascendant, Sun or Moon, or planets in the 11th sign or aspecting the 11th house or sign

What to favor

  • philosophy and metaphysics
  • helpfulness and kindness to one and all
  • study of astrology to understand the bigger picture of karma (action and reaction), grace, service, devotion, and liberation
  • groups and friends who give us joy
  • causes that improve the world as well as ourselves
  • interest in science, technology and the innovative – as well as interesting collections of artistic things
  • friendly independence in our spiritual practises
  • flowers, scents (particularly incense), peace and love
  • logical and expansive thought processes that allow our great memory to be tapped into
  • transcending boundaries rather than breaking them

What to avoid

  • too much selflessness and service – leading to being used and oppressed
  • self-criticism that doesn’t give rise to a positive solution or outcome
  • too many unpopular underdog causes – choose something with mass appeal as well
  • being overly abstract and cerebral – creating disconnects in relationships
  • being interested in anything“new” – sometimes traditional is pleasing as well
  • unconventional behaviors that are viewed as rebellious rather than transforming
  • radical adventurousness rather than seeking liberation and real freedom
  • over-connection to groups and friends – collective consciousness is good to a point
  • mental agitation due to an endless search for idealism – regular meditation will help calm you down
  • feeling you need to fix the world and everyone else rather than first fixing yourself

_______________________________________________________________

In the Vedic calendar Sun transits Capricorn from Jan. 13 – Feb. 12

From Jan. 13 to Feb. 12th, all of us begin to feel the influence of the Sun transiting, or moving through Capricorn – Saturn’s sign number 10 – the house of action, achievement, duty, and work. Sun is transiting his own son’s house (Saturn is the Sun’s son) and shining radiance upon that which is traditional, disciplined, efficient, logical, and serious (all things saturnine in nature). Depending upon what the individual favors in life, Sun in Capricorn can promote experiences which contain rigidity, gloominess and stiffness in thinking and behavior, or wise progress through formal connections to structured and ancient traditions in life.

Sun’s transit to Capricorn heralds a very special time of year

In India and other parts of the world, Makara Sankranti – festival of the Sun god on Jan. 14, is a time of great celebration and much planning of auspicious and spiritual events. The phrase ‘Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya”—may you go higher and higher, to more and more Light and never to Darkness marks the meaning of this special day. This is the time of year when we can find an integration of both material and spiritual goals – if we use this powerful energy wisely.

Those who have their Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon in Capricorn, in the 10th house, or a number of planets in the 10th, or aspecting the 10th sign or house, may find that the following descriptions apply to them all year round, as well as just during Jan. 13 – Feb. 12 each year.

_______________________________________________________________

Capricorn loves patience progress and perseverance: actualization is their boon!
Capricorn Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon loves patience progress and perseverance: actualization is their boon!

There really is no astrological sign quite like Capricorn and there are a variety of opinions about the mythological symbols behind sign 10. Some say that Capricorn is Makara (the Sanskrit name for Capricorn) – the crocodile – a ferocious reptilian creature, with powerful jaws, which creates and is at the center of its own environment and universe. Others say Capricorn is a mystical sea creature with a fluid dragon body and deer-like face, ruling both earth and water. Yet others say Capricorn is very much like the ambitious mountain goat or the gentle, self-effacing, and self-sufficient domestic goat – harmless, nourishing and protective. And some Vedic Astrologers are convinced Capricorn is the pinnacle of the astrological symbols, as the number 10 (absolute and relative combined) is considered to be the perfect number.

Capricorns are naturally in tune with material progress

Like the mountain goat, the Capricorn momentum is always upward, and they wish to be recognized and appreciated for their patience and perseverance in progress. Like the crocodile, they are capable of creating a powerfully self-sufficient environment around themselves, and they don’t let go of their ambitions and goals easily. Like the mystical sea creature, they can move easily and fluidly in their environments, and often have youthful, deer-like, gentle faces, which can disarm others. And like the simple domestic goat, they can be very nourishing and protective of others – particularly their children and spouses.

________________________________________________________

Capricorn can actualize both material and spiritual goals by applying practicality to both

Because sign 10 also rules the 10th house in Vedic Astrology – the house of career, action and apex of achievement in the Vedic Chart – the Capricorn personality values prominence, especially in the career sphere, and appreciates action and positive results arising from achievements. Well organized, they can take a pragmatic and practical approach to material achievement; step-by-step – moving ever forward. The Capricorn personality often unknowingly structures environments and hurdles they must overcome so that progress is achieved slowly, steadily and with great perseverance. Like the little train, chugging up the mountain, always reminding themselves “I think I can, I think I can”, they eventually arrive at the top of whatever field they choose – usually a little later on in life.

More mountains to climb – or is it time to recognize the spiritual bridge?

Somewhere on their journey, or when they arrive at the top of the mountain, Capricorn may look around and see that there are possibly an infinite number of materialistic mountains to create and climb. At that moment, they may pause and reflect about why they are working so hard and a deeper realization of the real meaning of “work” may emerge in their awareness.

An alert Capricorn may begin to see a real possibility of bridging their material and spiritual planes by also “working” on their inner selves. This more aware Capricorn may begin to practice mental or spiritual techniques; turning some of that powerful work ethic inward – towards their spiritual path – while maintaining their outer worldly responsibilities.

From the Vedic Astrology perspective, Capricorn’s subtlest desire is to achieve perfection through action. Number 10 – the sign of Capricorn – is considered by some to be the perfect number. Why?  The number 10 is a combination of 1 (the individual atman as well as unity) and zero represents the absolute or infinity. 10 = relative and absolute together. With Capricorn, there’s no need to give up one for the other – both spiritual and material success can be achieved simultaneously.

_______________________________________________________________

The undeveloped vs. the developed Capricorn

Undeveloped Capricorns can be demanding, cold and rigid in their behavior patterns – thinking that only those who work hard and nearly all of the time, are worthy of sharing their time. They may become so devoted to career, prosperity and achievement that they fail to remember that the garden of their life in the form of families, spouses or lovers, and all that’s tender and fun in life, also requires attention and a different kind of work to cultivate growth. This rigid type tends to be unwilling to tend to the personal or emotional sides of their relationships. All work and no play, this type tends to never take holidays (and view it as a badge of honor), work long hours (even though it may not be required) and are always “on” (the phone, computer, internet) catching up and attending to business; suffering bouts of depression when others fail to appreciate them for their tireless work ethic. This kind of Capricorn can become greedy for material goods, spiritual hypocrites, or just plain miserly and stingy.

The more spiritually aware Capricorns understands the importance of structure and desires to promote success in all spheres of their lives. More balanced, they bring a down-to-earth practicality to their relationships and spirituality and recognize that patience, perseverance, tolerance, devotion, gentle nourishment and protection are qualities to be cherished and enhanced. Recognizing that rest is equally important to successful activity, they are gradually able to concretize both mental and spiritual achievements. Their love of structure includes honoring subtle and ancient traditions (often those from India); their love of progress through focus and discipline makes them great spiritual aspirants; their commitment and perseverance helps them achieve their ultimate goals. This type can actualize the awareness “established in Being perform action” (Yogastah kuru karmani) – a state of cosmic consciousness, where the absolute and relative are together in perfect balance – established in a deeper symbolism of number 10. With time and patience, cosmic consciousness merges into a state of unity consciousness – the highest symbolism of sign 10: one-zeroed – written as the number 1 encircled by zero.

The winter is a great time to go with the flow of the persevering, patient, and progressive Capricorns you may know!

As Sun transits Sagittarius from Jan. 13 – Feb. 12th, all of us may find that we focus a little more on our goals and in perfecting ourselves. We may feel a tug to work a little harder, put in the hours necessary, and steadily make our way up the ladder of life. Revering structure and traditions may become the hallmark of our lives. If we’re wise, we’ll also take pause and begin to bridge the gap between our material and spiritual selves. This is an excellent time of year to begin working on our inner self as well as the endless outer trappings and desire for recognition of our merits and work ethic. Meditation, rest, and relaxation can assist us with letting go and transcending the material world. Experiencing the balancing, calming and nourishing effects of gentle Ayurveda treatments may also help with reduction of Vata (wind imbalances) and return us to a more natural state of Being.

Not up to the hard-working tasks ? Call a Capricorn - you just need to ask!

Sagittarius Vedic Sun or Moon loves truth freedom and justice: abundance is their boon!
Sagittarius Vedic Sun or Moon loves truth freedom and justice: abundance is their boon!

In the Vedic calendar Sun transits Sagittarius from Dec. 16 – Jan. 13

All of us begin to feel the influence of the Sun transiting, or moving through Jupiter’s sign number 9 – the house of good luck, higher learning and gurus and the sign of Sagittarius from Dec. 16 – January 13 each year. As a friend of the Sun, transit through a Jupiterian sign is considered an excellent placement. This is the time of year when we can find solutions to problems, be more successful with our honest, straightforward and open personalities; aiming high and often hitting the target.

In tune with natural law and knowledge

Because sign number 9 rules the lucky 9th house of foreign travel, gurus, higher learning in Vedic Astrology, Sagittarians make great teachers and express knowledge extremely well; enriching the lives of others. Truth, ethics, justice, and integrity are extremely important to the Sagittarius personality, and they love to roam freely in the fields of righteousness and positivity. Often, they have an inborn sense of natural law and knowledge that seems to beam forth from them. As the Sun transits Sagittarius, it’s good to share knowledge with others, inspiring them to higher goals and aspirations.

The plain truth

Some Sagittarians are known to take speaking the truth to extremes, and be a little thoughtless about the feelings of others as they speak their point of view. They can get moralistic, righteous and highly critical of what they view as inappropriate behavior, berate the less than just, and harshly judge those whom they view have less integrity or are “untruthful.” Sometimes they forget that speaking the sweet truth is kinder, gentler, easier on others’ hearts and more in tune with creating harmonious environments. Likewise, as the Sun transits Sagittarius, we may have to bite our tongues a little and not blurt out what we’re thinking to others. Think first what the effect of our words may have on those we like to share our advice and comments with.

Those of us who have their Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon in sign 9 or in the 9th house, or have a number of planets in the 9th sign or 9th house (from the Ascendant, Sun or Moon) will exemplify some of the Sagittarius personality and tendencies outlined below.

Sagittarians often lead lives of academic achievement, prosperity and professional status

Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of prosperity and abundance, Sagittarians love to learn, to know, to expound what they’ve learned and naturally gravitate towards positions of being knowledgeable professionals: doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors and philosophers. They often aspire to rise high, tend to be very lucky, and achieve the highest level of professional achievement. The Vedic Astrology symbol for Sagittarius is the bow – giving the ability to prevail over enemies. Another symbol for sign 9 shows a man with a horse’s body – four feet firmly planted on the ground while shooting an arrow high in the sky. As they aim for the higher vibrations of righteousness, truth and honesty, Sagittarians do have the ability to stay grounded in this world, and move quickly forward to accomplish their goals of integrating both material and spiritual gains.

Sagittarians love to feel in tune with higher universal laws and principles

Charming, good speakers, ambitious, positive, righteous, prosperous, restless, courageous – the Sagittarius personality can easily prevail over their enemies and even win admiration from them. Because the 6th house and the 11th house in a Sagittarius ascendant’s chart are both owned by Venus – enemy to Jupiter (lord of their chart) – friends tend to become enemies and enemies can become friends. As they stand up for truth, people admire them, applaud them, but at the same time can feel irritated by what they view as unchecked egotism in their personalities. Sagittarians will fight for freedom, justice, religion, law or whatever they fully believe in, and may not understand that those opposing them may fully believe that they are equally right, equally in tune with universal principles, and acting for the higher good.

The undeveloped vs. the developed Sagittarius personality

Undeveloped Sagittarians can be blunt, rude, conservative and rigid in their belief systems – thinking that theirs is the only way to the truth, to the divine. Because Jupiter is debilitated in the 2nd house of speech (the all practical Capricorn) for Sagittarians, all sign 9 people have to watch what and how they say things. The firebrand type of Sagittarius can get stuck on moral and ethical codes of conduct – endlessly lecturing, scolding or passionately ranting about right and wrong, good and bad, fact and fiction. Sagittarians of this kind can also be very particular about their religious and spiritual beliefs and claim their way is the only “right way” to heaven or enlightenment.

The more spiritually developed and aware Sagittarians are a great blessing to life – great teachers and philosophers – true lovers of wisdom, embracing the free flow of nature. Cheerful, positive, optimistic, they can easily accept others’ belief systems, secure in the awareness that absolute knowledge has many faces, many forms, is abstract in nature, and is the one substance moving through, uniting and creating us all.

Favorable and unfavorable traits of Sagittarius Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon: how others react to the frank, direct, and courageous Sagittarius personality

Sagittarians are forthright and straightforward personalities – like a breath of fresh air - they can be
  • deeply intuitive, lucky, enthusiastic and devoted
  • warm and friendly beings- children and animals are instinctively drawn to their goodness
  • sound in judgment, foresight and wisdom
  • virtuous, freedom-loving and naturally cheerful
  • drawn to higher learning, law, justice and freedom
  • making the rules, adhering to them and encouraging others to do the same
  • spiritually motivated and looking for absolute truths
  • inspirational to others with their natural integrity and warrior-like courage
  • fighters for causes, protective of the good people and righteous
  • straight as an arrow in dealing with others – scrupulous and honest
  • lovers of nature and the outdoors
  • philosophical – lovers of wisdom – at their core they love to share knowledge through teaching
Along with many positive and charming personality traits, the Sagittarius personality can also be:
  • moralizers and judgmental about everything
  • patronizing and prim
  • insistent upon others accepting their form of truth
  • rude to others in their desire to be honest and forthright
  • tactless about others’ feelings
  • egoistic – feeling their way is the “only way”
  • pushy and over-confident – relying too much on nature’s support
  • restless or need freedom and space more than anything
  • blind to others’ belief systems and ways of perceiving the world and God
  • critical to all those who don’t agree with them

Sagittarians clearly see the black and white, the good and bad

A Sagittarius personality is always noticed and they are always observing the behavior of others. They are generally warm and friendly, have open smiling faces, a tangible sense of goodness and an expansive feeling of nature and the great outdoors. They love the truth, plain and simple and relationships will fail if their beloveds don’t come up to their own particular brand of truth and integrity. The Sagittarius personality can become very disappointed when they discover that the people they’ve placed high on a pedestal have clay feet.

Some well-known personalities influenced strongly by Sagittarius

Sagittarius Sun: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Paramahamsa Yogananda, Howard Stern, Mary Tyler Moore, Joseph Stalin, Howard Hughes, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Steven Spielberg

Sagittarius Moon: Sri Aurobindo, Dalai Lama, Al Gore, Billy Graham, Ernest Hemingway, Adolf Hitler

Sagittarius Ascendant: Sophia Loren, Priscilla Presley, Jim Jones, Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, J. Edgar Hoover, Tennessee Williams, Jane Fonda

Sagittarians can channel self-righteousness & judgment into a pursuit of absolute truth- they can readily experience Pure Knowledge and Absolute Being

If Sagittarius personality is able to successfully turn their attention from self-righteousness, proper conduct, truth and judgment, towards absolute truths, they can experience freedom and bliss in Absolute Being and Pure Knowledge deep within. The steps towards this may involve gradually seeking out more subtle forms of knowledge and truth. As they investigate further, they may discover some measures of truth and some measure of mirage in the fundamental belief systems they hold so dear. As Sagittarians begin to progress on their inward journey, they begin to see that the power of the “known” holds less meaningful truths than the knower himself. No longer seeking absolute truths in the relative world – in pursuit of outward knowledge – they are able to perceive that pure and absolute knowledge is at the very core of his/her own being. With this comes ultimate freedom from the subtle ego karma of this Ascendant as they float safely and securely in the vastness of the Absolute.

The beginning of winter is a great time to go with the flow of the lucky Sagittarians you may know!

As Sun transits Sagittarius from December 16 – Jan. 13, all of us may feel the impulse to get out into the fresh air, enjoy the purity of the first cool white snows, and celebrate the beauty of nature’s wave of winter silence and expansiveness. We may feel that this is a time to think more deeply about our spiritual nature and what we’d like to accomplish. We may feel a tug towards a higher calling, more devotion, deeper intuition and a profound empathy for the plight of our fellow-man.

We may feel noble qualities arising in our minds and hearts, with a desire to motivate others in the same direction. The importance of honesty, integrity and scrupulousness begin to awaken in our awareness and we may feel to pursue connections with a more conventional religious or spiritual movement or causes which help return things to a closer connection to natural law. Things may be easier to accomplish at this time, as we feel generally luckier and more cheerful in disposition.

Not up to higher philosophical or spiritual callings and tasks ? Call a Sagittarius – you just need to ask!

Sun transits Libra, 2013: debilitated, eclipsed by Rahu and attacked by Saturn – things could get beastly in business!

_________________________________________________________________

More to chew on…

  • Why is Rob Ford’s personal corruption in the forefront of the news?
  • Why should integrity be a requirement of political leaders?
  • Continuing effects of solar eclipse of debilitated Sun in Swati Nakshatra November 3, 2013 reveals all
According to Vedic Astrology – eclipse patterns portend changes and where things need to improve

Eclipse patterns portend change and this can express itself in environmental, social, economic or spiritual shifts. Solar eclipses allow for a filtering down of effects through society and the global consciousness for about 6 months (some say up to two years): kind of like a lingering aftertaste when we’ve swallowed some powerful medicine. If we as individuals have personal planets (like our Moon, Sun, lord of our chart) or Ascendant in the nakshatra (star cluster) where the eclipse pattern occurred, we’ll also feel the effects more personally.

When the Sun is eclipsed – or swallowed by Rahu, the north node of the moon – in sign 7 (Libra) – the sign of ethics in partnerships, relationships and business – those areas where we have misplaced ambitions, endless appetites for money and the good life, inappropriate, slippery or out-of-tune behaviors – can be made public.

The Sun relates to leadership, governance, and government officials, and when it is eclipsed fully as it was on November 3rd, 2013, in sign 7 – the sign of balance – anything that is out of balance and out of tune, will clearly come to the forefront.

Rahu owns the nakshatra where the solar eclipse of November 3, 2013 took place

The full solar eclipse took place in Swati Nakshatra – in sign 7, Libra. Rahu owns this particular nakshatra, so all the potentially negative qualities of Rahu (the cosmic snake, the trouble-maker, the iconoclast, the rebellious, the addict, the unusual) will come to the forefront, as it relates to leadership (the Sun), business, partnerships and relationships (as it occurred in sign 7 – Libra)

This sounds more than a little familiar as we review the national and world-wide press coverage of Rob Ford, Toronto’s Mayor, doesn’t it?

Over this next six months – November 2013 – May, 2014, natural law is giving us an opportunity to closely observe Rob Ford (and other political, business leaders as well as ourselves!) and if wise, we can learn some valuable lessons. Solar eclipses in Libra reveal the flaws of the personality in how we relate to others – and where things need to improve in the areas of integrity and ethics. It’s our opportunity to get re-balanced with a higher purpose and flow of life.

One of the lessons we are being taught with this solar eclipse is: be very careful and think long term when you choose a leader and make wise choices!

Should integrity be a requirement of political leadership?

I don’t know about you, but when I think about which person should be leading a city, a province, or a nation, personal integrity is at the top of my list. It’s not so much about how effective a potential leader may be in balancing the books, relating to people or even being popular. It’s about a deeper issue for me – about being a whole, well-balanced personality, someone whose heart is constant, who sees the bigger picture, who takes, as well as defends the moral highroad, and will make the difficult and correct choices for the greater good when he/she has to. I’m looking for a person of integrity, who doesn’t say one thing, and then back-track and retract, and claims “you didn’t ask me the right questions…” when under attack by the press. But, perhaps my standards for leadership are too high?

Some want an iconoclast – a rebel with a cause – to lead the charge

Some people want a rebel, an outspoken, aggressive personality who pushes to get things done – no matter the consequences or effects on others. A work hard, play-hard kind of guy who gets out on the street, slaps people on the back, goes for a drink or two, winks and nudges as he reminds them that “hey, nobody’s perfect, eh?” A guy who cuts corners, moves things along and looks kind of okay on the surface, as he smiles and laughs about his weaknesses and pokes fun at similar weaknesses in others. The kind of guy who has a high school or first year university mentality that has him sober for his weekday classes but is a fall-down-drunk on weekends.

Are we expecting too much of Rob Ford – or should we want someone better?

Rob Ford was a rebel and rough around the edges when the people of Toronto elected him. He was a get in your face, shake things up, barge ahead in the line, and won’t back down kind of guy – then and now. His partying and after hours entertainments aren’t something he started last week or last month: this behavioral pattern has gone on a long time from all accounts.

Should the people of Toronto be surprised that his outspoken, pushy aggressiveness, or taste for his version of “the good life”, steps over many people’s moral boundaries in what he calls his “play time”? Should we as a nation be shocked at his behavior, or should we look a little more closely at our choices about those we elect as our political leaders?

So, are we expecting too much of Rob Ford, now, or should we be asking ourselves: is this the kind of leader we should we elect or re-elect in future?

Some points to consider:

1. Can a weekend drunk (who says he’s not an alcoholic as he only blacks out on the weekends), who claims “you know how I get when I’m in a drunken stupor” and is so out of it that he smokes crack cocaine, hangs out with criminals, and then says…”nobody’s perfect, eh?… do well as a political leader – making big decisions, requiring the respect as well as the cooperation of top-level city and provincial officials?

2. Can a man who claims that showing up sober during the week, is something to be proud of and that “he hasn’t had a sip to drink in three weeks, now…” be the man we’re looking for our citizens and youth to look up to? Well, it may be if you are a recovering alcoholic making substantive life-altering changes – but Rob Ford continues to claim he isn’t an alcoholic and doesn’t need help or treatment for anything other than his weight issues (the one issue he now claims he’s working on).

3. Can a man who says one thing, retracts it, puts a spin on things, flatly denies, and then finally admits under pressure of release of documents and “videotape blackmail” be the kind of man we want representing us?

4. Can a man who claims he’s not an addict, but under press and public scrutiny admits to using crack cocaine and cocaine (as part of his partying habits) and that the press just “didn’t ask the right kinds of questions about it”, be a transparent and honorable leader?

5. Can a man who is vulgar and bullies others be the kind of guy we even wish to consider as an elected official? Does a quick apology, and “let’s move on” and “nobody’s perfect” kind of attitude excuse any kind of continued belligerent and inappropriate behavior?

6. Can a man who admits to drinking and then drives (apparently on more than one occasion) saying “I’m a big guy and I only had a few” – putting himself and others at risk on the road, be the kind of fellow we truly want as our proud representative?

7. Can a man like this change enough at the core of his being, to take on another term of election – or will we just be giving him free rein to continue with all he’s suppressed, repressed, hidden and denied – until evermore embarrassing scandals are fully revealed – the next time?

The eclipse pattern in Swati – shows where leadership can improve!

When do we want more than the high school party guy, who slaps you on the back and savours stories of your shared weaknesses? Shouldn’t we want a better man than this, for ourselves as individuals, our families and society? Shouldn’t our political leaders and public figures set a better example for our citizens and youth of today, who may aspire to be politicians in the future? Is a man like Rob Ford all we’ve got, and is this all we deserve?

These are the questions we should be asking ourselves and we’re being given a chance now to carefully review and make wise(r) choices. If Rob Ford is truly going to run for re-election in the fall of 2014, the citizens of Toronto better think carefully about the kind of leadership they truly want (and who they may get stuck with) when checking off the ballot box October 27, 2014.

Eight major quotes in the press stand out this week in November, 2013 in Canada – courtesy of CTV news.

(Read more quotes from CTV)

There may be many more events as the month proceeds – from different parts of the globe – but these stand out for me as of November 23, 2013

  • “I have no reason to resign,” Mayor Ford said.
  • “I made mistakes, I drank too much, I smoked some crack some time. What can I say? I made a mistake, I’m human.”
  • “I’m not an addict! Why would I go and say I’m an addict when I’m not an addict. I’m not an alcoholic, I’m not a drug addict.”
  • “This folks, reminds me of when Saddam attacked Kuwait and President Bush said ‘I warn you, I warn you, I warn you, do not.’ Well folks, if you think American-style politics is nasty, you guys have just attacked Kuwait.”
  • Mark my words my friends, this is going to be outright war in the next election and I’m going to do everything in my power, everything in my power to beat you guys.”
  • “All they did was stab me in the back over issues … (the) same issues that I’ve admitted to, that they do, but nobody knows about it.”
  • “I don’t look at myself as the mayor, I look at myself as just a normal, regular person.”
  • No, I’m not in any alcohol treatment program, I’m not in any drug treatment program. I have a weight issues. I’ve been training every day.”
All are connected by the Eclipse of November 3, 2013 in Swati -bringing that which is out-of-tune and out of balance as it relates to integrity and  governance – to our attention – to re-balance and correct.

In the Vedic calendar Sun transits Scorpio from November 16 – Dec. 15

All of us begin to feel the influence of the Sun transiting, or moving through Mars sign number 8 – the house of transformation and the sign of the Scorpion from November 16th – Dec. 15th. As a friend of the Sun, transit through a Mars sign is generally considered a good placement. However, sign 8 in Vedic Astrology represents secrets, upheaval, change, occult (hidden) knowledge, kundalini, near death experiences, sexual energy, and difficult events. As the Sun transits Scorpio, there can be a passionate intensity to this transit – full of dramatic changes, manipulation, power struggles, prowess, jealousy, determination and will.

Those of us who have their Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon in sign 8, or in the 8th house, or have a number of planets in the 8th sign or 8th house (from the Ascendant, Sun or Moon) will exemplify some of the Scorpio tendencies and characteristics listed below.

Scorpio personality at www.jyotishwithpaulablog.com
Scorpio Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon loves secrets passion and power: metamorphosis is their boon!

Scorpios lead lives of change and re-birth

Ruled by Mars, the planet of power and energy, Scorpios are charismatic, tend to influence others with their intense personalities, and profoundly deep emotions, and often have very attractive, lithe, and seductive bodies. Like the Scorpion, they like to dominate their surroundings (subtly or otherwise).  They also bring passion and metamorphosis to their environments. Like the snake shedding its skin, they toss off the status quo regularly – bringing dramatic change to their lives and those they live and work with, or influence. Being an introverted and deeply private personality, to whom secrets are sacred, a Scorpio will often surprisingly reveal themselves by saying “you’ll never guess which Ascendant I am!”

Scorpios don’t like things static or routine – they often (even unconsciously) create upheavals in their lives

Forceful, respected, sometimes feared, the Scorpio personality is a determined one. They have deep insights to share, like positions of power, and can be profoundly motivating to others in bringing about revolutionary changes. They make great crisis managers, researchers, medical doctors, pharmacists, compassionate healers, psychologists, and political leaders bringing change by ending the old regime.  This intriguing personality also has the ability to help others through challenging crises and dark nights of the soul, as they know how to tap into the dark or hidden side of the psyche, personality and emotions – often through personal experiences. Upheavals, drama, and transformations are familiar friends to this Ascendant and many Scorpios create problems, or difficulties in their lives (even unknowingly) so that they can begin the process of change.

The lower scorpio personality tends to sting. jyotishwithpaulablog
The lower Scorpio personality tends to be revengeful and stinging.

Some undeveloped Scorpios, tap deeply into the more negative side of this Ascendant – taking too many risks, participating in criminal activities or secret liaisons, experimenting with the forbidden, taking drugs or alcohol secretively, harboring grudges, favoring anger, possessiveness, jealousy and power through domination and control. And, for those who choose to favor this side of the personality, like the Scorpion with its poisonous tail, they can bring a stinging conclusion to any disagreement – through punishment and lashing out with violence – perhaps when you least expect it.

_______________________________________________________________

Favorable and unfavorable traits of Scorpio Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon: how others react to the charismatic, powerful Scorpio personality

Scorpios are generally intriguing personalities who:
  • can be confided in – they hold secrets well and keep things private
  • demand respect by the sheer magnetism of their personality
  • can be sensitive, charming, charismatic, and powerful
  • can be politically influential, dramatic and artistic – all at once
  • are comfortable with the hidden, occult and mysterious – can be great psychologists, astrologers, healers
  • can be very devoted to the causes and people they adore – even to the point of selflessness
  • have deep thoughts and insights with a compelling ability to share
  • motivate others very well and like to “turn people on”
  • bring about positive transformations in their environments and within themselves
  • be very passionate, determined and sexual – appealing to the mass consciousness
  • can be thrilling and exciting partners in life and in business relationships
  • can develop refined and advanced siddhis (transcendental powers) & kundalini energy
Along with appealing and fascinating personality traits, the Scorpio personality can also be:
  • controlling and dominating – some say they are the natural troublemakers of the zodiac
  • vindictive, spiteful and punishing
  • possessive and jealous – cruel and sarcastic
  • overly intense – to the point of fanaticism – about everything
  • guilt-ridden and angry
  • overly sexual or sensually obsessed
  • create upheavals in their lives (even unknowingly) to effect a change – any change
  • underworld leaders or personalities – criminal tendencies – power-driven
  • interfering through manipulation, control, or unsought advice
  • painful to be with – leading to divorce and/or domestic violence issues

Scorpios can be passionate or adamant as they strive to control their environment

It is said by some that even in an ashram, a Scorpio personality will find themselves in the midst of upheavals, secret political intrigues, jealousy, and manipulation. They seem to be magnets for controversy, powerful enemies, and most certainly never lead dull lives. Passion is the name of their game – and they will be passionate about something – even if they are the most saintly version of Scorpio.

Vrischika (the Sanskrit name for Scorpio) has an innate sense of power and often find themselves in power struggle situations – which they usually win – but it won’t be an easy competition. Often the Scorpio personality has a difficult time in their lives because they view everything in extremes and with such intensity. Going out for groceries or making a simple phone call can be a dramatic event for sign number 8.

Some well-known personalities influenced strongly by Scorpio:

Scorpio Ascendant: Bob Dylan, Herman Hesse, Elvis Presley, Princess Diana, James Dean, Bruce Lee, Marlon Brando,

Scorpio Sun: Jim Morrison, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill, Woody Allen, Jimi Hendrix, Jodie Foster, Tina Turner, Indira Ghandi, William Blake

Scorpio Moon: Ram Dass, Kevin Costner, Saddam Hussein, Albert Einstein, Nietzche, Vincent van Gogh, Ted Bundy, Tiger Woods

Rise up to become a phoenix - effecting a powerful global metamorphosis
The developed Scorpio can rise up to become like a phoenix – effecting a powerful global metamorphosis

By channeling some of that churning passion into passionate awareness - Scorpio can create a metamorphosis of the spirit

The churning passionate intensity of Scorpio can be transformed into higher levels of compassionate healing through yoga and Ayurveda, becoming champions for development of higher consciousness, experiencing yogic powers (siddhis), devotion to peaceful societal transformation, and development of immense powers of the subtle mind. By channeling their powerful sexual (kundalini) energy into profound spiritual energy, a highly refined Scorpio can rise out of the ashes of their previous lives to become like an extraordinary phoenix – ending the old, and guiding and creating positive metamorphoses globally.

Passion improperly channeled can easily turn to nasty revenge with the lower Scorpio personality, so one needs to be a little cautious when dealing with an insistent and undeveloped sign number 8. You don’t wish to make this type of Scorpio an enemy: they have a long memory and tend to hold grudges – planning for their ultimate moment of revenge.

The end of autumn is a great time to go with the flow of powerfully motivated Scorpios you may know!

As Sun transits Scorpio from November 16 – December 15, all of us may feel the impulse to position ourselves a little more in society – and influence others with our inner powers of persuasion and control. We may feel that this is a time for a change in direction and desire to shake things up in our lives. Think carefully about exactly what kind of change you wish for: not all change is for good.

We may feel more sexually passionate and at the same time more power and ego driven. We may find ourselves listening with quiet interest to others’ secrets and think on how we can use them in the future to our advantage. It’s a good time to ask yourself if you wish to stay at that level, or wish to rise up to go beyond manipulation, obsession, control and power, and develop some of the higher spiritual powers. This is a great time to go with the flow of getting to the deeper levels of knowledge, devotion, learning the hidden secrets of life, including transcending, yoga and Ayurveda. Which will it be – a lower or higher path? You can be successful at this time of year – whichever direction you choose.

Not up to the passionately transforming tasks? Call a Scorpio - you just need to ask!

Libra Ascendant Sun or the Moon likes beauty and balance – and it can’t come too soon!

In the Vedic calendar Sun transits Libra from October 16 – November 15

All of us begin to feel the influence of the Sun transiting, or moving through Venus’s sign number 7 – the house of business, partnerships, relationships – the sign of others from October 17 – November 15th. Now, the host of sign number 7, Venus, is not a friend to the Sun. This is also the sign where Sun feels weak – so Sun doesn’t really feel at his best being here. (Imagine what you may feel like staying in a home of someone who doesn’t like you.)

Sun is a fiery planet, representing our soul, as well as our ego. When he’s exalted (in sign number 1 – Aries) the personality tends to be very strong – as does the ego. When he’s in Libra, and debilitated, his fiery energy, plus his egoistic tendencies are softened and toned down by the Venus energy he’s transiting. This means that though it’s more challenging to lead the charge and be tremendously ambitious with Sun in Libra – by placement or transit in our chart – it is easier to get along with everyone and work in harmony.

Those of us who have their Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon in sign 7, or in the 7th house, or have a number of planets in the 7th sign or 7th house (from the ascendant, Sun or Moon) will exemplify some of the Libra tendencies and characteristics listed below.

More about the Libra personality

Ruled by Venus, the planet of love, relationships and business, Librans normally like things in balance. Like the scales of justice, they like to weigh things out, hear both sides of the story, are often attracted to law and justice, have powerful people skills, and a very nice way of putting you in your place, should you step out of line. Peace-loving, politically sensitive and business-minded, they can be impartial as well as justice seeking, ambitious as well as diplomatic, passionate as well as idealistic, saintly as well as sensual. Librans are artistically inclined and generally have very refined senses, are truthful by nature and have a fair sense of play. This consummate Venusian, with all the agreeable positive energies successfully in play, can lead Librans to become influential leaders, lawyers, judges, or charming merchants and business people aiming to create a more heavenly plane here on earth.

But Librans also don’t tend to like to go it alone. They like to be in a close partnership, (love or otherwise) or tend to like to work with others. This makes sense really when you think of the time of year that Sun transits Libra: late autumn with winter just around the corner. In ancient times, people banded together closely to forage for food, share the responsibilities of child-rearing, exchange needed goods, fend off dangerous predators, and make it through the more difficult climactic weather patterns.

In the same way in modern times, we band together in cities, create business networks, we create web pages and blogs, twitter, create Face Book pages, and send texts, in order to connect to others and welcome them into our world. We need friends and contacts to send out invitations to our events. We need musicians to play the instruments we love to hear at the symphony. We need merchants to sell products, but just as importantly, we need customers to merchandise our wares to. The Libran personality usually knows how to do and balance all of these connecting and people-pleasing activities effortlessly. (Or learn how to do them as needed.)

_______________________________________________________________

Favorable and unfavorable traits of Libra Ascendant Vedic Sun or Moon: how others react to the justice seeking and business-minded Libra

Librans are generally refined and artistically inclined people who can:
  • effortlessly look polished and put together – even glamorous – on a day-to-day level
  • appear to have it all – perfect relationship, great business partnerships; success
  • smile and make you forget about what you wanted to argue about
  • surprise you with their passion and sensuality (once you know them better)
  • attract people and be the center of attention with their sweet nature
  • startle you with their intellectual gifts and powers of discrimination
  • be deeply attracted to causes, truth, law and justice
  • connect easily with others in any situation
  • be saintly, mystical, musical, and artistic
  • be political extremists and activists fighting for justice
  • write you a song, poem or a love story as they jot down their legal briefs
  • devote their life to your happiness
Along with great people pleasing and diplomatic tendencies which help them become successful – Librans can also:
  • have difficulty choosing – they can see the benefits and drawbacks of both sides
  • be too tolerant, loving and accepting, sacrificing their own happiness for others
  • find it difficult saying “no” to others and setting healthy relationship boundaries
  • become overly dependent on a sweetheart or co-workers
  • become fanatical about ideas, causes, and movements if they swing to extremes of the balance scale
  • have vision problems, diabetes, or urinary tract infections (problems with their waterworks)
  • always want to be with others to feel the support or appreciation of the group mentality
  • share their good advice too frequently – trying to help others too much
  • make poor business and personal relationship decisions
  • have a fondness for overeating, or a sweet tooth that makes them overweight or indulgent
  • put others out of balance as they attempt to get themselves in balance

___________________________________________________________________

Librans functioning on the extremes of the balance scale can either be saints or fanatics!
Librans functioning on the extremes of the balance scale can either be saints or fanatics!
Librans can be fanatical or compatible as they strive to find balance and create a more heavenly life on earth

In their extreme desire to create balance and harmony as they see it, some Librans can get very unbalanced and even fanatical at times. Think of the scale of justice swinging entirely towards one end of the scale. When this happens, they can become extremists, lose their center point and create a lot of imbalance in the lives of others and themselves along the way. Extreme Libra energy can find a political, personal, or business cause they believe in, lose perspective and become ruthless – or they can become spiritually inspired to the point of walking away from the world. Both Mahatma Gandhi and Hitler were Libra ascendants – exemplifying two extremes on the balance scale.

The late fall is a great time to go with the flow of naturally balanced Librans you may know!

As Sun transits Libra from October 17 – November 15, all of us may feel the impulse to balance ourselves a little more, work with others a little more closely, be attentive and harmonious in our relationships and more sensitive to others. This is a great time to go with the flow of getting relationship issues in order, planning artistic and social events in your calendar, breaking down barriers between the things that separate us from others, spending time on causes we believe in, coming to agreements with legal matters, hearing the other side of the story, and favoring our diplomatic agreeable side. It’s also the right time to balance our diet and get a good regular (and balanced) routine of exercise and rest – fortifying ourselves with beauty, love, happiness and joy as we approach the starker winter months ahead.

Not up to the balancing task? Call a Libran- you just need to ask!

Jyotish With Paula Advice – includes 10 – top tips to get you through

These tips apply year round to those of us who have Libra Vedic Ascendant, Sun or Moon (or some planets in the 7th house from Ascendant, Sun or Moon, or planets in the 7th sign.)

These tips are very effective to apply for all of us during the transit of Sun through Libra – October 16 – November 15

What to favor

  • harmony with others – working together to accomplish a goal
  • listening to your own advice more frequently
  • creating a beautiful environment at work and at home
  • tuning into the symphony of life – music, art, – anything requiring refined sensibilities
  • saying “no” gracefully to others. You can do it – let’s practice together …”no” (smile) “no, thank you…” (smile) – see that wasn’t so difficult!
  • showing your partner how much you adore them – hearts, flowers, and chocolates will do nicely!
  • sharing your substantial intelligence – and not just the pretty package it’s in!
  • getting down to the legal matters like drawing up wills and completing other business issues (there are some complications with any business transactions during this particular Sun transit of Libra – 2013 – check out the details here)
  • smiling and laughing more – remember that honey attracts more than vinegar
  • balancing all the many spheres of your life effortlessly and easily – now see how easy that was?

What to avoid

  • taking too much time to make decisions – jump in and make a choice!
  • weighing out all the benefits to you personally – before you give of yourself
  • too many sweets when you’re feeling stressed out
  • late night eating to calm you down or balance you out – it won’t
  • spending too much time with others and not enough time with yourself
  • saying “I’ll do my best” to others’ requests when you really, really want to say “no”
  • standing on the scales – now is the time to really look at what you weigh
  • getting stuck in extreme points of view – or taking the middle ground all of the time
  • putting off going to the doctor when your eyes feel weak or you’ve got pain in your urinary tract (or lower back)
  • dependence on others to get you where you want to go – try striking it out on your own a little more

Connecting Current Events to Vedic Astrology

Jyotish With Paula Blog – November, 2013 Just Pressed Jyotish

If you’re just tuning in:

  • The Pit - tough current event or societal problem
  • The Pulp - brief paragraph or quotes outlining pressing issue
  • The Juice - Vedic astrology principle at play
  • Juicy Detailsproviding deeper understanding, details, advice + 10 top tips

The Pit

Let’s get down to the issue, but don’t break a tooth…

Three Senators are suspended by the Canadian Senate – without pay – pending an investigation by the RCMP, for collecting up to six figures of ineligible expense claims. PM of Canada accused of orchestrating “monstrous cover-up” and white-washing financial audits.

Mayor Ford of Toronto caught on tape smoking crack cocaine, admits to driving while in a drunken stupor – and is refusing to step down.

The Pulp

You’re getting it – the press creates the pulp…

For those just tuning in to the Canadian news:

According to The Toronto Star, Sen. Pamela Wallin, former television journalist says she’s being targeted, is the victim of a political vendetta and blames two other Conservative senators for orchestrating leaks of damning information to the media to cast her conduct in the “worst possible light.” The CBC reveals that Sen. Mike Duffy, also a former television journalist, has taken aim at the Prime Minister’s office and staff claiming he was part of a back-room deal to “white-wash” the scandal and help re-pay Duffy’s expense claims. The CBC reports that Sen. Brazeau claims he’s done nothing wrong, and that he’d been given “tacit” approval to claim a secondary residence.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper supports suspension without pay and denies allegations of white-washed audits

According to the National Post, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is satisfied that the three suspended Senators …”have collected up to $100,000 of ineligible expenses, and did so willingly over a long period of time.”Harper flatly denies Duffy’s allegations that he’d helped orchestrate a “monstrous” political scheme to repay Duffy’s expenses and whitewash an audit once they became “political dynamite.”

Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto admits to drug use and DUI’s – city council wants him out

Mayor Ford of City of Toronto admits to smoking crack cocaine and driving under the influence “while in a drunken stupor – you know how I get”… but refuses to step down. Toronto City Council is trying every legal means to force him to step aside (to take care of his health issues) or resign.

The Juice

You’ve got it! Jyotish With Paula Blog provides the planetary perspective…
Why right now?
  • is there scandalous news about Canadian Senators?
  • is Stephen Harper, Canadian PM, being drawn into allegations of “white-washing” fraudulent actions?
  • are the three suspended Senators throwing accusations – stating they’ve been targeted – rather than taking responsibility?
  • is the Mayor of Toronto being asked to resign under a cloud of drug and DUI allegations?

Sun transits Libra, 2013: debilitated, eclipsed by Rahu and attacked by Saturn – things could get beastly in business!

_________________________________________________________________

More to chew on…

  • Why is financial, business, and personal corruption in the forefront?
  • Why are the accused denying allegations and throwing blame?
  • Why is integrity in business so important right now?
  • Solar eclipse of debilitated Sun in Swati Nakshatra November 3, 2013 reveals all

According to Vedic Astrology – eclipse patterns portend changes

Eclipse patterns portend change and this can express itself in environmental, social, economic or spiritual shifts. When a planet is eclipsed – or swallowed by Rahu, the north node of the moon – those areas where we have misplaced ambitions, endless appetites for money and the good life, inappropriate, slippery or out-of-tune behaviors – can be made public.

This is a time to re-balance, and take care of these things, or get our heads snipped off – as Rahu/Ketu did. (You may recall the story of the cosmic snake Vasuki where misplaced ambitions led him to steal a sip of Amrit (granting eternal life) – only to have his head snipped off by Vishnu when his misdeed was revealed by the Sun and Moon. Cut into two immortal parts (Rahu and Ketu), Rahu is eternally resentful towards the two luminaries who revealed him, and is forever unfulfilled. His brooding resentments lead him to attempt to swallow (or eclipse) the Sun and Moon – up to seven times every year.

In other words, Rahu the guilty – blames those who caught him with his hand (or in this instance his mouth) in the cookie jar – stealing the nectar of eternal life. Rahu the cosmic addict, will do anything possible to throw a shadow (eclipse) or aspersions to ruin the reputation of those who revealed him – and try to distract with denials, re-directs, and general finger-pointing.

In casting his shadow – Rahu reveals himself

In throwing an eclipse shadow over the Sun (or Moon) Rahu’s shadowy head is revealed for the world to observe.

Remember that it is in the nature of Rahu to not take responsibility for his inappropriate behaviors and to try to blame those that pointed out his crime of stealing Amrit to Vishnu. The luminaries – the Sun and the Moon blew the whistle on Rahu – and as such became the target of Rahu’s fury. Rahu tries mightily to throw a shadow ( eclipse), or cast aspersions on the Sun (representing leaders) and Moon (the public awareness). There may be powerful attempts to re-direct the public attention and criticize those who pointed out the flawed behaviors. Don’t be fooled or distracted – get back to the basics of this or any comparable situation: who, what, where, when and how.

The three Canadian Senators accused of wrong-doing are doing their level best to throw aspersions everywhere – and not taking responsibility for their own actions. Each claims they’ve been unfairly targeted. Similarly, Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto, blames the Chief of Police, City Council , and nearly everyone else for “targeting” him.

Eclipses of the Sun also reveal where leadership can improve

Solar eclipse patterns can also reveal where leadership (the Sun and governing bodies) needs to improve. Even though the Sun shines all of the time – there are moments when it is humbled (or eclipsed) by shadowy effects. If there has been wrong-doing or inappropriate behavior on the part of leadership – it will also come to the forefront. The full eclipse of November 3rd, 2013 is one such opportunity. This is a time to look carefully to see where leadership and government can improve. If leaders are committed to a positive change, the results of the solar eclipse pattern may provide an opportunity for them to effect positive progress. Otherwise, the public may not like what they see and replace them. In Canada, this means that the Prime Minister, the Canadian Senate, (including those suspended) and the Mayor of Toronto will be scrutinized over the next 6 months – November 2013 – April, 2014. It’s a good opportunity for them to clean up their messes, work hard to re-establish trust with the people, and re-attune themselves to their ethical and moral leadership responsibilities

______________________________________________________________

Seven major events in the press stand out in late October to early November, 2013 in Canada.

There may be many more events as the month proceeds – from different parts of the globe – but these stand out for me as of November 2, 2013

  • Canadian Senate’s financial scandal is scrutinized by Auditor General
  • Three Senate members are to be suspended without pay - pending further RCMP investigations
  • PM Stephen Harper, the PM’s office, and other Senate Members come under attack by accused senators alleging cover-ups, similar abuse of expense claims and audit white-washing
  • PM Stephen Harper defends a Senate decision to suspend accused Senators and denies allegations of a “monstrous” cover-up
  • Toronto Police have recovered the video showing Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine, Toronto police Chief Bill Blair said Thursday.
  • “I have no reason to resign,” Mayor Ford said at a raucous 2:30 p.m. press conference despite calls from councillors for him to step down.
All are connected by the Eclipse of November 3, 2013 in Swati

Sun transits Libra 2013-debilitated and eclipsed by Rahu then at war with Saturn – things could get beastly in business! jyotishwithpaulablog
Sun transits Libra October 17- November 15, 2013: conjoins beastly Saturn/Rahu combo - things could get downright ugly!

Things could get a little complicated to downright beastly this fall as debilitated Sun transits sign 7 – sign of business, relationships, partnerships in the cosmic chart. Depending on where Sun is transiting in your personal chart the complications and challenges are revealed. Let’s look at the Sun’s transit of Libra, together, and see what’s happening in this dramatic combination in the cosmic play of planets.

What does debilitated Sun mean?

When Sun is debilitated (as it is in Libra) either by transit or placement in a Vedic Chart, it means that Sun is at its weakest (most vulnerable) and is not the best at leadership abilities or making critical decisions. Not wanting to go it alone, Libra Ascendants, Sun or Moon (or those with personal planets in the 7th house, or 7th sign, or lots of planets aspecting those houses or signs) like to work closely and in harmony with others. They tend to be more reliant on others’ opinions and not independent about making important decisions as it relates to business or personal relationships.

Not wanting to go it alone has its advantages and disadvantages.

Libra Sun, Moon and Ascendant people are generally gentler, more diplomatic, and don’t like to stir the pot. They are able to check their egos at the door and make things nicer wherever they are. These positive harmonious energies are great in a group – but it depends on the group you are dealing with and what the group mentality is doing. If the group becomes militant and aggressive, the gentler Libra personalities won’t tend to step forward to change the direction if it is becoming negative or going downhill. They may favor the majority vote and keep their opinions to themselves. If the stock market (or the economy) starts to swing, the Libra personality may be running around asking others’ their opinions and fail to act quickly and therefore lose what they’ve invested. If a love interest starts taking their anger out on the Libran, they may try to over-compensate and become passive and overly agreeable.

Extreme swings on the Libra scale can create aggressive fanatics or saints

Weak Sun transiting Libra in Swatimaking things shaky and scatter to the wind - outcomes uncertain. Why?

  • Debilitated Sun will be with two strong enemy malefics by transit: Saturn and Rahu from October 17 – November 15, 2013
  • Sun is transiting a Venus sign (also an enemy of the Sun)
  • From the 23rd of October to November 4th, Sun will be closely conjunct Saturn (combusting Saturn) in Swati nakshatra
  • Swati is a creative, but unstable nakshatra (6 degrees 40′ – 20 degrees Libra) whose power is to scatter like the wind
  • Rahu is the sworn enemy of the Sun, friend of Saturn – and eclipses (swallows) the Sun up to 5 times annually
  • Sun will be fully eclipsed by Rahu on November 2/3, 2013
  • Sun will be at war with Saturn (within one degree) from the 5th – 7th of November, 2013
  • Planets at war – within one degree (especially enemies like Saturn and Sun) – no one wins – they both suffer according to their karakas (governing tendencies)
  • The Moon – the other luminary will also be debilitated on November 5th, 2013
  • Saturn is the Sun’s son (an enemy to his father) and is exalted (strongest) in Libra and sitting in Swati nakshatra with a malefic friend Rahu
  • Rahu is in its own nakshatra (Swati – a Rahu nakshatra) – and also very strong in Libra with its friend Saturn

Debilitated Sun transits Libra - eclipsed by Rahu November 3, 2013
Debilitated Sun transits Libra – fully eclipsed by Rahu November 3, 2013

Full solar eclipse by Rahu November 3, 2013 – “swallowing” of the light – unexpected events can happen - spiritual resolve and dharma can be weakened

Imagine yourself as the Sun in the following situation:

It’s late October, early November, and you’re travelling south, feeling weak, under-confident, a bit scattered and unsure in an unstable environment (swati nakshatra) not wanting to go it alone, (you’ve got it – you’re Sun in Libra). As part of your travels this year, you have to be a guest for a month in a home of someone who doesn’t like you and is away at the moment (Venus the host of Libra owns sign 7).

Two sinister looking flat-mates who’ve been guests at the Libra house for quite sometime call out to you as you walk through the door, put your suitcase down and the door quietly closes behind you. “By all means come on in – enemy of ours – and make yourself at home. We’ll both make sure you’re well taken care of while you’re here…” A third voice, off in the distance says…”I agree with these two – they’re absolutely right!”

You look up and see that your first flat-mate is a son you’ve been very distanced from, who’s got plenty of “issues” with you, is a bit of a control freak and can be punishing about holding a grudge (Saturn).

The second flat-mate is a close buddy to your son, and a sworn enemy of yours, with whom you’ve had many strange run-ins. Rahu is his name, and he’s a massive, shadowy, shady, addictive character, who takes great pleasure in creating turmoil in your life – to the point that he attempts to swallow you (the Sun) several times a year. (Rahu eclipses the Sun up to 5 times a year). Rahu promises that soon he’s going to successfully swallow you whole (full solar eclipse on November 3, 2013) and finally wipe you out. He grins wickedly as he says it and opens his mouth widely – filling the house with murky shadow to prove his power!

The third guest in the house is the regal prince Mercury – planet of communications and business. Mercury has chameleon-like propensities – known to take on the point of view and side with whomsoever he’s with. Because he’s with two bullies like Saturn and Rahu and in retrograde motion – he floats in between siding with you and siding with them. Whomever he views is stronger he aligns himself with. Because he’s closer by degree to Saturn/Rahu- he confirms their aggressive speech and approach (at least for the moment).

All three of these “charming” characters are settled in the central part of the house (Swati nakshatra – 6 degrees 40′ – 20 degrees Libra) and they warn you that over the next month they are going to make your life miserable. Because you’re the Sun, representing the eternal soul of the person, and the ego, whose motion is ever-forward (never goes backward) – you can’t turn around and leave. You must go forward and meet your destiny – come what may.

How would you feel in this situation, should you find yourself inside that room and cannot leave? Annoyed, trapped, nervous, fearful, angry, resentful, weak, uncertain – perhaps less spiritual resolve? Feeling a little out of tune with your natural destiny (dharma)? Would you also feel a little like the fly who’s just joined two (or maybe three) spiders on a giant web?

The sun is a STAR - fiercely shining - ever radiant, powerful and brilliant!
The sun is forever a STAR – fiercely shining – ever radiant, powerful and brilliant!
But is the Sun ever really scared?

Well, you may be feeling really nervous about being in a room with two powerful malefics and a possible third, with no visible way out – but the Sun is THE SUN after all! He’s a brilliant star – not just a mere planet – a regal king who shines brightly, hotly and fiercely – even when weak by placement, and with two dreadful enemies and one uncertain prince standing in his way. When close, by proximity, the Sun tends to shoot out fire balls, and burn everything in his path. Like the bright star that he is – he shines brilliantly, incessantly, and intensely and never lets up. Nothing and no one can withstand his heat and intensity. He combusts all planets who get too near to him – this means he overshadows them with radiant brightness and “burns” or subsumes them. It’s said by some that he also blesses any planet that is too close, by shining his own brilliant qualities through that planet.

How does this happen? Imagine that the Sun steps into your house. Would you see anyone else? Of course not! Would you feel intimidated or overshadowed by his radiant, heat and combustibility? Definitely, yes! The fiery Sun literally lights up a room: he’s got enough light to make every other star in our galaxy invisible by day time here on earth and nothing is hidden from his powerful, unwinking presence.

Saturn is a mere planet – and the Sun’s son – can there really ever be a war between the two?

Saturn is the son of the Sun, after all. When the father visits where he’s staying, he may feel brooding and resentful, but Saturn will also feel diminished and almost invisible – as every planet must feel cowed by the presence of the Sun’s total unflinching light. So, even though strong by placement in Libra, Saturn gets combust and his strength diminishes (and some say any planet surrenders its power) by proximity to the Sun. Every step that the Sun takes towards Saturn, the more Saturn’s strength deflates and he surrenders his power. Because Saturn is not used to being so close to the Sun (by transit) he really begins his combustion (surrender) almost from the moment Saturn enters sign 7 – Libra.

Also, interestingly enough , as Saturn is exalted in Libra – he unknowingly supports his debilitated father (the Sun) in Libra. Any debilitated planet conjunct (together) with an exalted planet begins to act more like he’s exalted. (This is a neechabhanga yoga – a kind of “temporary get out of jail card” for the debilitated planet). So things seem to start rough and rocky for Sun in Libra, but may improve over time and with effort and discipline – the kind of things Saturn likes. (Saturn gives the “get out of jail card” and in return receives respect from the debilitated planet by working successfully with his energy – hard work, discipline, focus.)

In return, as the Sun combusts a planet – he floods them with his light. (The Persians refer to this as being in the lap of the king.) Now because Saturn is really at his basis nothing but light (as son of the Sun ) and just looks dark on the surface – Saturn’s dark cloak may get burned away to reveal his pure transcendental self – which is light itself. Chameleon-like Mercury is used to being over-shadowed by the kingly sun – is never more than a few degrees away – and is therefore combusted regularly by him. Mercury falls in line easily – though he may still create problems and glitches in communications and business dealings while he’s retrograde in motion (October 20 – Nov. 11, 2013.)

Planetary wars really have no effect at all on the Sun – but they have a cosmic effect.

So you see, no planet can ever really “war” with Sun , as surrender is guaranteed by whatever planet he approaches and subsumes. A war with the Sun seems more like an opportunity for the Sun to correct or re-align a planet to show the divine light that it truly is at its basis. However, on the earthly plane, a kind of war can take place amongst people. Sun represents kings, leaders and the solar line. Saturn represents democracy, control, and is the great leveler of disparity. Mercury deals with communications and business. There can be a crisis point experienced between all that represents the father (leaders) and son (the people) and communication between the two energies right around the eclipse pattern and can continue until June, 2014.

Caution and practical intelligence needs to be applied here (Saturn). Leaders in any field (Sun) need to work harder to show that they recognize and are willing to correct the disparity between themselves and their people. Give more, help more, be flexible, roll up their sleeves and join the people in the trenches to improve their lot in life. Be careful about communication break-downs, glitches, and misunderstandings as there can be plenty of them during this time. (Mercury). With focus, and a willingness to work with, instead of against the people they represent, leaders can make it through this time more smoothly. It would be wise for all political leaders to remember that suppressing or ignoring rebellion, or forcibly restricting the press and communication, does little to solve issues. Many revolutions show the failed results of rule by force or applying autocratic thinking in challenging planetary combinations like these.

_______________________________________________________________________

Good can prevail if we properly use the strength and discipline of Saturn and the humbling effects of Rahu – it’s all up to us to make correct decisions!

Solar eclipse patterns are to remind the Sun that it’s not all-powerful – all of the time

As for eclipses – it’s basically the same concept – but in reverse. The Sun in the Vedic Astrology Chart represents not only the Soul, it also represents the small self – the human ego which can get inflated and bloated by greed and desire. Rahu symbolizes the dark, slippery shadowy ego-self that fosters and encourages improper thinking and behavioral patterns. Though Rahu is a powerful and massive force, and may appear to overshadow the Sun (the soul) momentarily – it’s only an illusion. The grander purpose of Rahu “swallowing” the Sun, is to re-attune the ego side of the individual self – to the more cosmic side of things. It’s as though Rahu cuts off the light (the essential nature of the Sun) to remind him that he is not all-powerful – always. There is a cosmic force that is larger than the Sun: a bigger picture that needs remembering.

Because Rahu is only a shadowy head – it has no attached body; the Sun is only momentarily humbled by this shadowy influence. As soon as it is “swallowed” the Sun comes out the other side and some say that the Sun is purified by this encounter. In the cosmic sense, Rahu is really overshadowing the ego side of the Sun – showing where the Sun’s placement has become too powerful, and out of tune. And likewise, it is only when an eclipse pattern occurs that we can see the shadowy head of Rahu (where we need to change, purify and improve). If we’re wise we can learn to use the flexibility of Rahu as he snakes his way to a goal, to avoid the obstacles before us, and overcome problems by going round them – and not by direct confrontation.  At the same time. be careful not to activate the slippery side of Rahu – or favoring our impulses that are not in tune with the laws of nature.  Remember that Rahu was so ambitious that he got his head snipped off – leaving him forever unfulfilled and full of brooding resentments.

Having the Sun eclipsed in Swati nakshatra, and in Libra – is a lesson for all of us to get our business life, our personal relationships and marketplace, in balance with the greater good. Otherwise we will globally find ourselves swallowed or eclipsed by our misplaced greed and improper behaviors and simultaneously at war with a great leveling power as Swati’s “shaky” nature continues in the business place and markets for about 6 months – until around June, 2014.

_______________________________________________________________________

Jupiter is wisely watching over this planetary combination – from Punarvasu nakshatra – helping making things good again and right again

Jupiter is now in its own nakshatra Punarvasu – whose power is to make things good again, right again. Still afflicted by Rahu, by aspect, it can still be a little tainted by materialism as it aspects this malefic combination of combust Saturn, Rahu, combust and retrograde Mercury, and debilitated eclipsed Sun. Rahu and Saturn combined make a greedy beast, Sun eclipsed and at war with Saturn can make things feisty to say the least. Mercury’s combust and retrograde motion makes for glitchy and uncertain communications at best – and lots of deception at the worst. The four of them together in an air sign can fuel a ballooning economic unsteadiness. Jupiter’s aspect tends to both expand and bless the things he aspects. Because he is in the house of economy (sign 3) and communication – he can either fuel or tame the beasts warring their way through Libra.

Jupiter stands for our more cosmic intelligent wisdom – the broader picture. If we as a global family work together to make things good again and right again, so that there are fewer disparities and glaring lack of prosperity in our brotherhood of humanity – Jupiter will support that. If we can come to terms with our bloated egos, and greedy nature, humble ourselves and find a way to help our fellow-man – Jupiter will bless that and help us all find a more righteous and generous path to prosperity. If however, we fuel our greedy tendencies in the marketplace, partnerships, legal arrangements and in business and war against our neighbors and fall from our high place of integrity and prosperity – Jupiter will also support that. There are lessons to be learned from all of these possible scenarios and Jupiter doesn’t choose which lesson we experience. It all depends on what WE choose: the high road or the low road. And then we learn the easy way, or the hard way.

The stock market, business partnerships and the eclipse pattern with Sun/Saturn war

Saturn and Rahu are both air planets in an air sign. Sun is a fire planet in an air sign. What do you have when you mix fire and air? Well, for one thing it generates a lot of hot air – and that can make things float things up like a balloon. The market could snake (Rahu) up quickly. But because three malefics (and one who favors whomsoever he’s with) are together in Swati nakshatra – power to scatter like the wind and quite unstable – it’s not necessarily a positive trend that has lasting power.

Rahu is a smoke-like character with sharp teeth and no body. Sun will be feeling pressured and annoyed by Saturn’s interference in its path – generating too much heat and throwing a few fireballs to clear the path. Saturn will be trying to level the playing field , exert his usual control and dominate through the power of the people, and at the same time collapsing in on itself because of combustion with the Sun. Mercury retrograde and combust can make for devious or mischievous communications – creating misunderstandings and problems.

What happens when a balloon gets over-heated, punctured or collapses inwardly, and no one works together to communicate properly and honestly? What goes up may fall down with a bang during or after the full solar eclipse. Because solar eclipses tend to influence the global psyche, unsteadiness in politics, leadership, stock market, global business and the marketplace may last up to six months – until June 2014.

Avoid

  • over-confidence or greed in the market – sudden shifts could promote a great fall or collapse
  • urgency driven responses – feeling that you must act now or won’t succeed
  • less than honest and transparent business dealings – avoid signing contracts right now – especially with Mercury retrograde (until Nov. 16)
  • father/son confrontations (or leaders vs. the people) – you may find yourself at a distinct disadvantage and under attack

More to chew on…

The Pit

Don’t break a tooth now…

New technologies emerge transforming our environment for good!

New advancements in technology are coming that can rock our world – and it can all be for good – if we only know how to harness the powerful energies present!

Despite the mostly negative astrological predictions about a particularly powerful combination of planetary configurations involving Rahu (the cosmic snake), Saturn (the planet of discipline and control) and Jupiter, the planet of expansion, we’re also on the leading edge of change – a time of great potential for mankind.  Yes, mankind could misuse nuclear energy and create damaging effects to ourselves and the environment, but that’s only one side of the story for the fall of 2013.

Many positive outcomes, particularly in technological advancements – using “outside the box” approaches – can also be achieved if we use this powerful energy wisely. These innovative approaches will be especially successful if we appeal to the higher intelligence of strong Jupiterian energies to work with the environment instead of against it, and a deeper understanding of laws of nature, not yet visible or apparent.

The Juice

The planetary perspective…

Rahu Saturn conjunct Libra, fall 2013, can rock your world – what you need to know now! - gives the juice!

According to Vedic Astrology Rahu and Saturn – both strong malefics – are transiting Libra – sign 7 of business.

There have been some dire predictions for the fall of 2013. Don’t get me wrong, there are some very clear indications that this planetary configuration could be more than a little hiccup in the global perspective, both economically and environmentally. But that’s only one side of the story.

For every potentially negative outcome this fall, there is an equally positive one possible – if we use this powerful energy of Saturn and Rahu combined in Libra, the sign of partnerships, relationships, business and “others”, wisely. Using more than our daily dose of common sense, and appealing to the more positive and cosmic qualities of Jupiter, planet of wisdom, may help.

How does Jupiter play a role in creating wisdom?

Jupiter plays a valuable role here, as in the planetary play of things, Jupiter acts as the great counselor of the devatas – (the good guys) representing higher intelligence and wisdom.

Jupiter’s natural wisdom and beneficence is being strongly “afflicted” as we like to say in Jyotish terminology by Rahu, the wily cosmic snake. Jupiter is transiting Gemini in Ardra, the howler – a nakshatra owned by Rahu – and aspecting Rahu and Saturn in Libra in Swati nakshatra, a Rahu nakshatra owned by the wind. In turn Jupiter is being afflicted or aspected by Rahu (and his buddy Saturn) from Swati. Whew! Sounds difficult doesn’t it?

This means, for those not so familiar with Vedic Astrology terms, that the bullies in the room (Rahu and Saturn) are swaying Jupiter in the direction of acting more like Rahu than he should. In turn, Jupiter’s expansive aspect to Rahu and Saturn in Libra could strengthen their negative qualities.

Rahu at his worst is all about sudden compulsive greedy behavior. Saturn is all about control and discipline and at his worst (when he’s with another malefic) he can become quite punishing. Rahu and Saturn, when receiving the expansive energy of Jupiter by aspect as it is right now, can become bloated with greed and expand both their compulsive strength and combined punishing qualities. This combination of energies can mean trouble with a capital “T”!

So what part do we play in what direction Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu take?

As always, the play of the planets is about teaching us valuable lessons. Let’s look together at the stage that’s being set by cosmic intelligence, as the planetary play for the fall of 2013 initially looks a bit challenging.

The hero, Jupiter, is center-stage with some bullies who are egging him on, and he has a choice to make. Does Jupiter let the worm (Rahu the cosmic snake, as a very big worm!) spoil the sweetness of his apple (of life) and turn him from wise and magnanimous, to sour and indulgent? Or, can Jupiter’s beneficent orb influence the cosmic worm positively – to turn and become more wise and useful to society?

And likewise can protagonist Jupiter’s kindly influence positively affect Rahu’s buddy Saturn, who is all about control and discipline, to move toward directing a stable transforming change, or does he fail and Saturn brings about sorrow, contraction and a punishing influence to global markets, misusing nuclear energy and damaging shifts in the environment?

Whether this fall will be positive or negative all really depends on what we decide to do with the powerful forces present.

From the positive perspective Saturn and Rahu are particularly helpful energies to use for rapid, out-of-the-box transformations – especially in the technological fields – and can give long-term sustained growth in a positive direction. Jupiter could really expand that potentially positive energy in technology to great ends for society. We could benefit magnificently, if we can turn the tables from life-damaging behaviors and technologies and shift towards life-enhancing technologies with positive outcomes.

If we are all strong, stable, we can set our sail with any wind in the world that comes along. If we are not strong, we are like a leaf in the wind. So we meditate, every day, regularly and gain transcendental being in our everyday life – and then we are strong.

Sun in Leo 2013 can boost our confidence – which is great! Enjoy the autumn days and share some of your abundance

Make hay while the sun shines is also wise – put away some of your harvest for the coming months – gold may be good to buy now

Sun transiting Leo can prevent us from seeing the details of our life up close - mistakes can be made – perceptions skewed if over-confident

Remember that there are substantial global & economic shifts coming this fall – a sharp shift downward is possible – preparations need to be made

___________________________________________________________________________

How wonderful - Sun is transiting Leo August 17 – September 17th, 2013!

Sun, the planet of illustrious kingship returns to his royal palace and happily sighs in relief as his devoted entourage welcomes him back home. From August 17 – September 17th the world may seem a brighter place by his regal presence in Simha (the Sanskrit name for the constellation of Leo the lion). Confidence may surge as we survey our own kingdom and reap the well-deserved harvest of our life this year. This may be the time to take our profits from the market and enjoy buying and wearing gold!  Wearing golden, bright red and orange colors may also appeal.  It’s also a good time to share some of our abundance – spread the light around. Commit to making your world a little happier, brighter and more joyful.

By transit, wherever Sun in Leo shows up in our chart, that domain of life feels his light and blessings. Those that have personal planets or their Vedic Ascendant in Leo may particularly feel to surge ahead with great confidence especially if those planets are the benefics like Mercury, Moon, Venus and Jupiter.   People with key planets (like sun, moon or the ascendant) in Leo love to shine and be the center of attention.  Often we find them center stage, either by profession, like actors, musicians, or creative artists, or by leading the way in some dramatic fashion.

But wait; don’t we also have to look to see what other planets are doing and how they may influence Sun in Leo’s perspective on life?

Exactly. Depending on what aspects Sun in Leo, and what planets he is with (be it benefic or malefic) his approach will be more magnanimous, self-indulgent, or entitled. Some great saintly personalities are born with Sun in Leo (like Mother Teresa) as are successful con-men and those suffering from megalomania! When Sun is in Leo by birth, the person may feel so special, so unique and protected that nothing can affect him. This can lead to a tendency to ignore danger or situations which are potentially harmful.
  • This personality may also be very hot-tempered and doesn’t like competition.
  • He likes to be the center of attention and resents others who try to usurp his position.
  • Other planets in the same constellation may be overshadowed by his natural radiance and disappear from view.
  • This can lead to jealousy and misunderstandings with those closest to him.
  • And with over-confidence in the moment, he may fail to put aside some of his abundant harvest for the coming winter months, and continue to indulge his every royal whim.
  • Sun in Leo’s confident approach can easily move to boastfulness, not planning for the future, and failing to see vital details close to home.

Even if we don’t have Sun in Leo by birth, we can also experience some of these tendencies when Sun transits Leo, or key planets or houses in our chart – as the Sun in Vedic Astrology represents ego, health, confidence, the father and our leadership capabilities, and is a secondary ascendant for everyone.

_______________________________________________________________________
Finding a balance between the broader scheme of things and seeing details right in front of us can be both challenging and delightful with Sun transiting Leo.
(I recently found this astrological tale on the internet – some details may have been altered to assist the storyline…)

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep.

Some hours later Sherlock wakes his faithful friend…

“Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”

Watson replies, “I see millions of stars.”

What does that tell you?” asks Sherlock.

Watson ponders for a minute, then says…

“Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.

Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Libra.

Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three.

Theologically, it’s evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant.

Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow.

What does it tell you?”

Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks.

“Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent!”

____________________________________________________________________

It’s important to see the details as well as the grander picture with Jyotish
  • With Sun in Leo, there’s a valuable lesson to be learned about balancing perspectives
  • Having the long view while looking right up close
  • Enjoying the moment of fullness while averting the dangers not yet come
  • Jyotish offers such an unbounded perspective to those trained in this delightful science of light
  • Many analysts can get lost in the broad scheme of things and if not careful, fail to see what’s right in front of us
  • It is very easy to get tempted by the ivory tower of abstraction and fail to meet the practical needs of the every day
  • Sun in Leo shines his radiance all round to help us see things more clearly if we use the Science of Light wisely

There is an old saying ” make hay while the sun shines” – and the sun does shine brightly in Leo

Treasure and enjoy this special time of year – take full advantage of the kingly Lion at home in sign 5.

Also be wise; don’t over-indulge and over-spend – think carefully about the winter months coming and preserve.

_________________________________________________________________________
As we look ahead to the fall of 2013

It is good to realize that the sun doesn’t always shine so brightly as it does in Leo. In just two months time, the Sun is debilitated in Libra (Oct. 17 – November 15). Where I live in northern Canada there is distinct shift from sunny, warm, autumn days and playing in the leaves to preparation for winter. The colorful autumn leaves have been swept away, the nights are longer, and everything looks a little stark and foreboding.

Similarly the planetary influence of debilitated Sun at October 17 – November 15th is felt world-wide as a general loss of confidence, over-reliance on others’ advice, and a feeling of not being able to go it alone. Because the global stock market is dependent on confidence, when debilitated Sun joins the challenging Saturn and Rahu combination in Libra there could be a strong adjustment and some Vedic Astrologers predict a popping of the economic balloon.

For those who haven’t let Sun in Leo go to their heads and have made hay (and tucked some away) while the sun shines – times will be easier this fall. For those who have been over-confident and over-invested in the market they may feel a pinch this fall as other economic and global shifts occur .

The full solar eclipse of debilitated Sun on November 3rd, 2013 can add to the mix as can the debilitation of both luminaries November 4 and 5th
  • Because the sun will be generally weak by being debilitated from October 17 – November 15
  • Yuti (combined) with two strong malefics (exalted Saturn and Rahu) in Libra (the sign of business)
  • With Retrograde Mercury – challenging communications, electronics, computers, and business in general
  • The full solar eclipse on November 3rd in Swati Nakshatra can intensify an already challenged time
  • As moon shifts to debilitation November 4th and 5th – both luminaries will be debilitated
  • Be a little extra careful during this time about investments, speculation, and all business dealings
  • It’s not a good time to start new ventures for about a week before and after the eclipse patterns
  • Eclipse patterns are valuable for spiritual advancement – so more meditation and rest are advised

Floods Top 2013 World Disaster Bill So Far

Jul 10, 2013 11:30 AM ET // by AFP

“Inland flooding that affected parts of Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia caused about 47 percent of overall global losses and 45 percent of insured losses, said the leading reinsurance company based in Munich, Germany. The deadliest disaster out of 460 recorded “natural hazard events” worldwide was a series of flash floods in northern India and Nepal that killed more than 1,000 people in June after early and exceptionally heavy monsoon rains.

Inland flooding that affected parts of Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia caused about 47 percent of overall global losses and 45 percent of insured losses, said the leading reinsurance company based in Munich, Germany

…Debate in climate research is currently focusing on what the causes of such changes in weather patterns could be and what role climate change might play in this,” he said. “But it is naturally not possible to explain single events on this basis.”

Deadly tornado aftermath in Oklahoma

“The second most expensive disaster was a series of severe tornadoes that hit the United States in May, especially a maximum-strength tornado in Oklahoma.”

Why right now?

The Pit

Don’t break a tooth now…

  • Why is there so much water – flooding and too much rain?
  • Why are there heat waves – breaking world records?
  • Why the extremes in weather patterns, right now?

The Pulp

The press reports….

Seven major events stand out late May – July, 2013

There may be many more events as the Rahu Saturn conjunction, aspected by Jupiter, intensifies this summer and fall. As of July 27, 2013, these headlines stood out for me:

  • The widest tornado ever recorded in the U.S. wreaked havoc on Oklahoma.
  • Heat Wave May Threaten World’s Hottest Temp. Record.
  • The world as a whole experienced one of the hottest June’s ever recorded.
  • In June 2013, Alberta, Canada experienced catastrophic flooding described as worst in history.
  • Europe’s floods top 2013 disaster bill, according to Munich Re.
  • China readies for typhoon and deadly floods.
  • India reels under rain, floods: more than 500,000 people displaced.

The Juice

The planetary perspective…

Jupiter in Gemini in Ardra Nakshatra – gives the juice!

According to Vedic Astrology – Jupiter is transiting Ardra nakshatraknown as “the howler”!

When we think of tornadoes, what comes to mind? A gentle breeze or howling gales, bringing disaster in its wake?

You’re right. An almost unimaginable beast of a storm hit the mid-western U.S.A., leaving an incalculable effect on the people and environment in that area in late May 2013. It’s estimated that peak winds reached 210 miles per hour (310 km. per hour) in the deadly Oklahoma tornado. Touching down for a brief 37 minutes, the tornado cut a swath through a populated area of 17 miles (32 km.) and was about 1.3 miles wide at its peak (2.1 km).

How is this related to Jupiter?

Jupiter – the planet of expansion, a normally benefic influence is currently transiting Gemini constellation – sign 3. No problems there, right? Well not exactly…

One of the nakshatras (or star clusters) Jupiter transits as it moves forward through Gemini is Ardra Nakshatra is owned by Rahu (the north node of the moon – 6 degrees 40′ – 20 degrees Gemini). Ardra’s symbol is the tear drop, the color green, and is referred to as the fat or wet one. The deity of Ardra nakshatra is Rudra – the howler and bringer of storms, tears and tragedy.

Right now, Jupiter is transiting Ardra Nakshatra (late June – September, 2013)

Jupiter, the big, expansive and normally well-behaved planet that it is, by transiting Ardra nakshatra, is actually increasing the intensity of storm patterns currently on earth. (More details provided later on in this article…)

Equally intense have been flash floods and heat waves in June/July 2013

In the Uttarakhand area in India (a well-known pilgrimage retreat) about 40,000 were stranded in a flash flood, and over 1,000 killed. Monsoon rainstorms impeded rescue efforts and lead to further loss of life. Parts of Canada, Australia and Europe have experienced similar if not as extreme flooding conditions. North America has broken heat wave records, as a “jet stream — a fast-moving river of air at airliner altitudes that is responsible for steering weather systems — formed the shape of a massive, slithering snake with what meteorologists refer to as a deep “ridge” across the Western states, and an equally deep trough setting up across the Central and Eastern states. ” … according to Climate Central on June 28th, 2013.

Why is Rahu in Swati Nakshtra complicating things?

Rahu in Swati Nakshatra is with Saturn in Sign 7. Swati’s deity is Vayu – the wind, and is an unstable, wavering nakshatra, owned by Rahu.

Rahu is currently conjunct Saturn in an air sign (constellation Libra, sign 7), owned by Rahu, aspecting Jupiter in Ardra.

In Vedic Astrology language this means that malefic Rahu is aspecting benefic Jupiter, and bringing his bullying friend Saturn along with him for support. Both malefic energies (Rahu and Saturn) are coming from a wind-driven location (they’re both in Swati – the wind)

This changes normally happy Jupiter into an afflicted character – not acting in his normally good and upstanding way. In the same way that two bullies in a room with a gentle person can alter the behavior of the sweet personality – taking his behavior to a lower level, Rahu and Saturn are afflicting Jupiter. Another concept may clarify this further: the worm – in this case, Rahu as the cosmic snake, and a very big worm! – is spoiling the apple.

Interestingly enough, even the heat wave weather patterns (above) took the shape of “a large slithering snake”!

Rahu also owns the nakshatra Jupiter is transiting, right?

Exactly! Not only is Rahu transiting a Rahu Nakshatra (Swati) it is also aspecting Jupiter in a Rahu nakshatra (Ardra). Not good! This means that in a way, Rahu is aspecting Rahu and intensifies things even more.

To review

So, first we have Jupiter aspected by Rahu (which afflicts Jupiter). And then, Jupiter also aspects (or directs its energy towards) Rahu and Saturn together in Libra. Jupiter’s expanding energy is magnifying the malefic energy of the Rahu/Saturn conjunction in Libra. (Making the bad boys stronger.)

During the months of July – October, Jupiter’s being influenced quite negatively, and in turn is passing that negative energy back to Rahu and Saturn. Because Rahu and Saturn are in an air signs and a nakshatra owned by wind – powerful storms of all kinds can result. Flash floods, heat waves, and extreme climate changes can be experienced globally. Economic upsets resulting from greed can also result. (I go into more details of this in the article I refer you to in Juicy Details, below.)

Conclusion

In response to the…” debate in climate research is currently focusing on what the causes of such changes in weather patterns could be and what role climate change might play in this…but it is naturally not possible to explain single events on this basis.”

www.jyotishwithpaulablog.com: Jyotish With Paula Advice on Vedic Astrology and the cosmic dance of the planetsJyotish With Paula says…

I would suggest that there are very real and tangible explanations for the results we are experiencing in climatic change at this time. Definitely, for those looking for a deeper understanding – it’s all in the stars, and the dramatic planetary play, under the cosmic sky. These intense planetary combinations are giving rise to visible results here on earth, and we as individuals and collectively are experiencing them.

The ticket with these rougher combinations is to work with the energy and not against them. Prepare for a bit of a wild ride, and maintain a measure of equanimity, knowing that some purification is happening and everything will work out in the end. For those in the know, there are ways to become enormously successful at this time. I provide details of this in the article highlighted in Juicy Details below.

For many, this may not be the best time to travel, invest heavily, or take risks. It may be best to ride out these more dramatic times in a settled calm, more inward environment – if possible.

I personally find daily deep meditation is a great way to find peace in stressful times - a rainbow in the midst of the storms of life. Meditation is a perfect way to detach from the frenzy of the world, and settle into a serene place, deep within.

All of these wild shifts in climate and storms are closely connected by the afflicted transit of Jupiter in Ardra nakshatra (the howler), aspecting Rahu/Saturn conjunction in Swati (owned by Rahu and the wind).

Saturn Return – Jyotish with Paula Blog

Highlights

Saturn Return comes 3 times in your life  to help you get back on track and its impact is far-reaching. It can bring pressures, contraction and a feeling of helplessness.

  •  27 – 30 (1st Saturn Return –  feeling frantic about a career, going back to school, getting married, settling down and having a family)
  • 58 – 60 (2nd Saturn Return –  panicking about your mid-life crisis, health issues, aging parents, empty nest, and/or why nothing makes sense anymore)
  • 88 – 90 (3rd Saturn Return wondering if you’ve made progress, taking stock and letting things go)

Jyotish With Paula offers a unique, uplifting perspective of how to work with these powerful transforming energies brought to your door, and 10 top tips to get you through.

Learn to transform helplessness into purposefulness by understanding what’s happening and why.

Read on for valuable insights to help yourself, a friend, or a loved one going through a challenging Saturn Return…

 _______________________________________________________________

What’s person to do when Saturn Return hits and changes your life ? Are you prepared?  Can you ready yourself?

When the long arm of Saturn Return reaches out your door knocker and begins rapping, slowly, first softly, patiently and rhythmically on your cosmic door… “tap, tap, tap” – will you  run and hide?

As you ignore his rapping, and he begins a firmer…”thud, thud, thud”, do you lock yourself in the bathroom, hold your breath, and cover your eyes?

When you still won’t open the door, a loud…”BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!”  and down comes that door, barricades, locks and all.  And Saturn is in, staring at you – eyeball to eyeball – demanding an accounting.

The ticket is to figure out if  this insistent stranger is really the wolf at the door – looking to eat that scared little piglet within, or if he’s the hero who’s broken down the thick earthly walls you’ve built around yourself – looking to help you escape.

Hopefully by the end of this article you’ll know who this powerful intruder is in your life – friend or foe – and why he’s kicked your particular door down.  And, if we’re lucky you’ll know how to work with the energy he brings with him, because he has substantial arsenal and isn’t afraid to use it.

About Saturn and his effects

Saturn is a very slow-moving planet – farthest out from the Sun, and takes about 2.5 years to transit a sign (astrologically speaking), and about 29.5 years to transit the entire 12 signs.  Compare this to the Moon, which travels quickly and traverses 12 signs in a month (or 27. 5 days).  Sun, Mercury and Venus, take about one year to travel round the wheel of the zodiac.  Mars takes a little longer at 22 months, and Jupiter takes a full 12 years to travel the wheel.  The slippery, smoky, cosmic snake Rahu/Ketu takes a longer, slower trip, as he meanders backwards, transiting through all the signs, in reverse gear, for about 18 years.

You get the feeling that the further you are from the center of things – center being sun – things slow down.  Time has a different meaning for the slower moving planets, and likewise they have a bigger impact on our astrological charts.   For slow-moving Saturn, furthest away from the center of things – time is almost irrelevant.  He’s like the turtle, inching ever forward towards the goal.  And if you recall the story of the hare and the tortoise – though all odds were against it – the tortoise won the race.

Tick – tock goes the clock – every 29 years he comes round

Sounds onerous doesn’t it?  Some say Saturn is time itself, ticking on inexorably,  a long-fused time-bomb waiting to deliver its effects at just the right time – patiently waiting until we least expect it, delivering his potent present to our life.  Without much warning all we thought we knew and relied on – can suddenly go up in smoke.

For this reason, Saturn has been greatly feared throughout the ages for the effects he can exact on those he’s “returning” to. He brings contraction and pressure,  acts like a taskmaster and presents a number of obstacles when he comes to deliver his returning gifts. He’s viewed by some as the karmic king,  the grim reaper, and is even pictured in  ancient drawings as Kronos – the eater of his own children.

Where is Saturn going and where does he return to?  Every 29.5 years Saturn comes round to where he was when he started – like a clock returning to high noon –  to the very place where the gun battle always begins in the movies.  Dripping brows, sweaty palms; tensions run high as the two gunmen squint and stare each other down.  Who will draw first?  Who will win?  And more importantly – who’s really the villain and who’s the hero in this story?

Each time a planet “returns” to its astrological beginnings – it signifies change and purposefulness

Ideally, each planetary return signifies our return to a higher purpose – not just a materially obvious one.

With the Moon return, our emotions wax and wane over the cycle of about 27.5 days, and with this our habits, peace and receptivity to the nourishing effects of divine mother should be refreshed as the  monthly moon phase begins anew.

With the Sun returning to its cyclical beginning , we’ve seen and experienced outwardly changing seasons, and in doing so we should be celebrating our connection with the non-changing inner light within.

Mercury return infuses a refreshing wave of invigoration to our thought process and nervous system, and an opportunity to re-orient our intelligence to the inner truths and the unique vibration of  the Creator in all.

Venus return should bring not only a renewed commitment to those things we cherish or love, it should simultaneously return us to transcendental wonder, joy, and devotion.

Mars return brings vitality to our physical body, and the energy to promote our plans for about a 2-year period.  Simultaneously, it should  provides the drive and energy to promote our spiritual growth and effective skill in action to get there, overcoming any obstacles on the way.

Jupiter returns occur every 12 years, so our 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, and 84th year will show us grace and abundance in the sign it transits.  Simultaneously Jupiter should guide and expand our reality to the great oneness of life.

Rahu/Ketu returns reveals where our compulsive behaviors and obsessive longings reside.  Through his reverse gear driving in an 18-year span, presenting many eclipse patterns, he winds and twists his way to show us our flawed slippery behaviors and  our inappropriate desires.  He shines his mysterious light on areas that need cleaning up – that we think we’ve so successfully hidden underneath the rock of our life.  He too is purposeful in nature, and his gifts, if we can accept them, can help us remain in the moment – not cloaking ourselves in disguises, dwelling in the past,  or pretending to be someone we’re really not.

Saturn Return: has the biggest effect astrologically speaking

Saturn returns occur possibly 3 times in a life span; once at 28- 30 years of age, again at 58 – 60 years, and finally at 88 – 91 years.  During Saturn return we become aware that the clock of life is ticking, and that there is only so much time we have in this body to accomplish our goals.   It reminds us that we need to be focused, to be willing to work and follow through things to their natural conclusion.  Without Saturn, no planet can fully deliver its effects.  All planets promise potential – Saturn ensures delivery of the effect any planet promises – no matter how long it takes.

Saturn encourages every activity by giving it form and foundation, the ability to follow-through, to be persistent, dedicated, and perform focused action.  And, if we don’t tow the line, and learn its stern lessons, it tends to be like an old grandfather of the household – scolding and forcing others to obey his will with his cane, and whatever other disciplining weapon comes to hand.

Through Saturn Return we should also be learning to travel the path of life with serenity and acceptance of all that comes with equanimity – even through the apparent challenges and difficulties.  Through Saturn’s detaching energy we can learn to accept all experiences as valuable learning tools – equally valid and put down expectations of results in the outer world.  His teachings are about our inner world, and how we’re progressing on our spiritual path.   And, if we are living a more natural life – perfectly poised in the balance of the moment – Saturn may reward  us abundantly with all of the spiritual experiences we could possibly desire, while maintaining our relative comfort in the here and now.  Saturn doesn’t always take away and can provide great comforts if the person is balanced in his/her perspective;  developing 100% inward  potential as well as partaking fully of the relative world.

How does Saturn Return impact us?

Perhaps the better, wiser question is: how will we view Saturn’s impact on us as it returns to its starting point in our chart.  That is ultimately most important.  Do we observe him to be that wolf, panting at the door, threatening to eat our fatty selves, or is he the hero, cracking the shell of our cosmic egg, demanding that we come out and act like the spiritually mature beings we are meant to be.

It all depends on our point of view – be it materially oriented, or spiritually aware

If we are deeply immersed in gaining relative goods and have forgotten our spiritual source – Saturn Return will surely peel the fat right off us, sparing nothing in his goal of removing the unnecessary.  If we’ve been more spiritually aware, and moving in the right direction towards our higher goals, but working with the wrong people or illusions – Saturn Return can be equally taxing, but reaches in to offer a stern but kind hand to pull us out of the rubble of our previous life, and point us in the right direction for our next 30 years.

If we’ve made substantial progress towards our spiritual goals, and been vigilant in our 30 year pattern, Saturn Return can eliminate our previous life and connections to it like a sharp knife cutting through butter.   Everything and everyone may drop away like an old husk as we step forward into our new life, (either here or on the other side)  much lighter, without pretenses, and definitely more enlightened.  In this instance, Saturn may greet us an old friend and kind guide – one who pats us on the shouldera nd  walks slowly with us awhile as we continue on in our new life – reassuring us that we are not alone.

Saturn is what we make of him when he comes knocking at our door

Whether you’re between 28 and 30, and experiencing your first Saturn Return,  or 58 -60 and experiencing your 2nd, or have lived  long enough to experience your 3rd at 88- 90 years,  Saturn will come to see how you’re progressing on your spiritual path.  You may not remember it, but you did set those dates in your cosmic calendar for his visits.  You asked him to come;  you wanted him to visit; you longed for him to shake up your life, and put your life back on track.  Why?  So  you could accomplish your deepest spiritual aspirations, and not forget the most important reason you are here – to find your way back to your cosmic home.

Remember when he meets us at high noon,  at our Saturn Return, and points a gun in our direction – Saturn’s not taking aim at us, but at our ignorance.  It is said that he only removes what is unnecessary and useless at our stage of development and frees us from the bonds that we’ve so tightly tied around ourselves.  Saturn’s not the villain in this story, though we often view him as such.

When he kicks down our door, after we’ve done all we can to ignore his persistent rapping, Saturn does so to break through the hard cement of our conscious mind, and help us access the fluidity of our cosmic selves.  He’s here to help you remember your essential nature and remind you of your divinity.

And if Saturn looks like a wolf, and starts peeling off the fat, it’s only because we’ve slopped about in the mud of life, overly indulged our senses and eaten too much poisonous pride and inflated ego while at the trough.   He won’t strip you of your soul, but he may humble you in the process of  kindly returning your soul to you.

What to do when Saturn comes a ‘knocking?

So, when Saturn comes “tap, tap, tapping” at your door, don’t run and hide.  When he comes a “thud, thud, thudding”, don’t lock yourself in the bathroom, cover your eyes, and plug your ears.  Don’t wait for the “boom, boom, boom” to come – cause you know it will, and there he’ll  be – staring you full in the face.

Instead, plan for his visit.  Show him the respect this great guest deserves.  Meet him at the front door with gifts, and a warm smile of appreciation and love.  He is a great Guru, after all, who with great reverence and patience, helps us at every small step forward towards the goal.  Saturn has got all the time in the world to help us, and he will teach us – come what may.  We will learn, no matter what; no matter how long it takes.  Though he comes cloaked in the darkness of time and space, those who can see his true nature, know that he is the great son of the Sun – full of nothing but pure transcendental light.

Have you got the time and strength to work with Saturn and help yourself to the great gifts he patiently brings you?   The gifts may look different from their intended result.  It may be better to prepare now for his 29 year review – coming in the near future, or right now at your door.

Saturn Return is on its way to you and he must be acknowledged.  Get your life in order, straighten up and fly right.  Prepare gifts he adores most:   patience, endurance, devotion, kindness, forgiveness, discipline, orderliness, equanimity, spirituality, detachment … you get the idea.  Start creating and  living the life you’ve always hoped for,  and make no more excuses.

You see, you can get ready for his knock at your door: you can prepare for Saturn Return.

As with all the planetary drama in this cosmic play – it’s really all up to you.

Jyotish With Paula Blog : Just Pressed Jyotishconnects Jyotish and Vedic Astrology principles to current news

If you’re just tuning in – here’s the concept:

  • The Pit – tough current issue or societal problem
  • The Pulp – brief paragraph outlining issue
  • The Juice – Vedic astrology principle at play  – connecting news events
  • Juicy details – article providing deeper insights,  advice and 10-top-tips

The Pit

We get down to the core issue – but don’t want you to break a tooth…

Example: June 5, 2013

  • Verizon forced to hand over telephone data – full court ruling

The Pulp

You’re getting this: the world-wide press is creating the pulp – the news!

Example:

June 5 – 9, 2013:  The Guardian reveals NSA collects and uses telephone records of millions of  US customers, including Verizon – a top telecom provider – as part of a secret court order issued in April, 2013.  Under court ruling, Verizon is required to provide details on an “ongoing, daily basis”  giving NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems –  both within the U.S. and between the US and other countries.  Public shocked at government involvement.  Obama comes under fire – defends position.  Whistler-blower,  Snowdon, former CIA data analyst, comes forward expressing concerns at ballooning information mining, personal and public safety. Takes sanctuary in Hong Kong – then disappears.

The Juice

You’ve got it!   Jyotish With Paula Blog provides the juice!

  • Why are calls to correct abuse of power coming now?
  • Solar eclipse of exalted Sun in Bharani nakshatra May 9/10 reveals it all

According to Vedic Astrology – eclipse patterns portend changes

This can express itself in environmental, social, or spiritual shifts.  When a planet is eclipsed – or swallowed by Ketu, the south node of the moon – a spiritualizing influence in the areas the planet rules can be noted.  Sun – the planet of rulership, personality, ego, dominion, leadership and the soul,  was eclipsed on May 9th, 2013.  At that time, the Sun was exalted in Aries.  This was a very powerful Sun influence – one that can involve ego and pride – leading to abuse of power.

Why would the May 9th eclipse have continuing effects?

Even though the solar eclipse happened May 9th, 2013, Jyotish reveals to us that the eclipse pattern continues to have its effect at a deep level in our collective psyche for about 6 months (some say up to two years) after the event.  A kind of aftertaste that lingers long after the medicine in swallowed.

So, all things associated with an eclipse of exalted sun in Aries (power, domination, courage, achievements) will filter down into society.  Those that have abused power will find themselves under the scrutiny of public attention and the courts. Those who are courageous in the face of adversity will also come into focus.

Bharani Nakshatra further defines the eclipse influence

The eclipse of the sun occurred in Bharani Nakshatra (13.20-26.40 degrees Aries).  Bharani is all about restriction, struggle, secrets, discipline, courage, and bravery, leading to truth, release, justice and judgment.  It is ruled by Yama – the deity of duty, dharma and death in Vedic Astrology.

All things associated with struggles for freedom (political and otherwise); secrets long-held; courage in the face of opposition or difficulties;  restriction leading to release; and justice leading to judgment in some form are the characteristics of Bharani.

Those that have abused power will be scrutinized by the public, the press and the courts in the next 6 months – 2 years, as Yama has his reign during this time: re-balancing energies towards the greater good.  Courageous acts of private citizens or groups will also come to the forefront.

Five major events in the press stand out in May/June

There may be many more events as the month proceeds – but these stand out for me as of June, 12, 2013

  • Former CIA data analyst reveals secrets of PRISM and NSA data mining abuse
  • Canadian Senate’s financial scandal scrutinized by Auditor General
  • Angelina Jolie’s courageous reveal of mastectomy secretin hopes of helping women
  • The Cleveland Captor caught and brought to justiceending decade-long captivity for 3 women
  • Riots in Istanbul against proposed government controls – struggles for freedom

All are connected by the Eclipse of May 9th, 2013 in Bharani.
